These finds represent three different
outings: Daytona Beach, Beach in Mexico, and
his own property. According to Kevin, all
items were located with a White's Spectra

Daytona Beach Trip
With the White's Spectra V3 |
|
|
One of my
old high school classmates called me just
before Christmas this year from Daytona to
tell me he just bought a new metal detector.
He and I used to hunt here in Ohio years ago
before he moved to Florida.
I cleared it with the wife as it was
getting rather cold here in northern Ohio. I
drove straight through
around 18 hours thinking I was going to get
to hunt again before spring and maybe get a
tan to boot.
The day I arrived it was around 50
degrees and I had to run to the store to get
some long sleeved shirts and a light jacket
as it would dip to 34 degrees at night.
After relaxing for a few hours we went
to the beach. Being that it was cold and a
cold front had moved in we were pretty much
alone on the beach. I could tell that he was
moving way to fast as he would pick up clad
I would come along behind him and get the
good stuff.
As you see the paragraph above was just
some of the things I found being there for 3
days not to mention around $6.00 in various
clad and pennies. All in all I think he
found around $1.55 in clad and before I
left. I tried to explain to him to slow
down and keep his coil level. I guess he was
just a little to excite.
Anyway I packed my gear and treasure
and headed back to Ohio waiting for spring.

I always go
to Cabo San Lucas Mexico in November to go
marlin fishing for a week. This was the
first time I ever took a metal detector and
boy was I glad I did. I usually charter a
marlin boat every other day and sit on the
beach a day.
This time the days I wasn't on the charter
boat I was tearing the beach up with my
white's v3. On the 1st. day I went marlin
fishing but no luck just caught 5 Dorado
fish. Second day I hit the beach and found
lots of clad but nothing to brag about.
third day I went marlin fishing again and
after about 2 hrs of trolling at 20 knots I
got a strike on the port outrigger out 100
yards.
At this point the captain and first mate
stopped the boat and we set the hook and 45
minutes of the most physical workout I ever
had I could see this monster jump almost
completely vertical out of the sea of Cortez
or Gulf of California about 100 ft off the
stern of the boat. I knew it was a large
marlin as I have caught marlin before, but
this guy was way too powerful compared to
the others I have caught. After a 1hr 20
minute battle, we finally gaffed the beast
and tied him to the stern swim platform.
After returning to Cabo they hoisted the
fish as all the others caught that day to
weigh them and sell them. My fish weighed in
427 1/2 lbs and was 13 1/2 feet long. I
didn't sell my fish as I saw a local native
and he asked me for the tail to feed his
family. After seeing his 5 kids bloated and
hungry I gave him the whole fish. His
expression on his face was heart warming to
say the least.
4th day as I was getting ready to hunt the
beach I noticed about 1 mile out from shore
was a huge cruise liner. I heard him sound
off the ships horn and drop anchor as
numerous boats were lowered to the water
with tourists coming to the beach I was
hunting. I decided to sit down on a lounge
chair on the beach with a Corona and just
watch.
Wow you should have seen the bathing suits
come off as they hit the beach. I later
found out from the motel I was staying at
that the ship was on its way back from
Aruba, South America.
After watching the people from the ship
party and act crazy I thought I would just
sit back and enjoy and hit the beach the
next morning. At 5 am I was pounding the
sand while everyone was nursing a hangover
and it was almost too good to be true. I
found 2 Seiko chronograph watches still
running, roach clip 9 diamonds 14.1 grams,
.650 ct. diamond marquis engagement ring 14
kt 2.2 gram, diamond cut 14kt 20 inch 10mm
rope 133.2 grams, mans bracelet 14kt. 8 3-4
long 16.3 grams and just when I was getting
ready
to go back to my room as I had to catch a
cab 60 miles north to La Paz to the airport
I found a 22kt pendant that weighed 12 grams
and said on the obverse Plymouth 1620 New
York 1894.
The reverse says Society of Mayflower
Descendants but the other name engraving was
hard to make out as it had been scratched
out for the most part. |
